Trying Not to Quote Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Our real estate agent mentioned that there is so much paperwork involved with buying a house. He said that a lot of couples fight in front of him over the amount of work involved.

So far, Neale & I have gotten through this unscathed. We didn’t fight over houses, didn’t argue about our wants and needs, and our division of labor is quite clear.

What is slowly needling us and pushing us is the wait. The waiting. The hurry up and sign this, now wait. Sign this again. Wait. Fax us this. Wait.

And even worse- how do you know when it’s actually your house? Some people say it’s when your offer is accepted and your purchase and sale agreement is signed. Some people take the more severe approach- it’s yours when you have the keys in your hand. WE JUST DON’T KNOW. All signs point to YES, of course, BUT STILL.

All of our documents say we close June 30. So I gave our landlords notice today. Neale was very uncomfortable with this idea, as he is incredibly superstitious. Unfortunately, his superstition isn’t enough for me to forget that we have 3.5 weeks to pack everything and move, while we both work 40-50 hour work weeks and try to maintain social lives.

We are basically living with a giant shoe over our heads, just hovering. It’s either going to disappear or drop. As you can imagine, this creates quite a bit of tension.

The reward will be great, I know it. We both know it. We talk about the reward constantly. But this part- I can do without.

I hope you say nice things, but if you don't, I'll get over it eventually.
