Just a house right now

We had just started adjusting to managing a house, when Rufus, our sweet cat, fell ill.

I noticed a couple of nights ago that he seemed lethargic, and more so than normal for the current heat wave. Rufus is typically a snuggly little monster, and he was just… blah. He slept away Tuesday under the bed, drinking some water, but not eating. We brought him to the emergency vet on Tuesday night when he tried to jump off the bed and failed miserably.

Turns out he has feline diabetes, which is very treatable, but untreated as he was, very serious. He was dehydrated and needed his blood sugar levels to be increased considerably. After 3 nights in the hospital, he is doing better, but will have to have daily shots for the rest of his life.

Needless to say, it’s put a damper on trying to make this place feel like a home, because it’s just not the same without him.

We’re hoping to get some work done on Saturday, particularly in the office, so I have a good, quiet spot to work from home on Monday. And, maybe we’ll be ready for our little chicken face to come home.

I hope you say nice things, but if you don't, I'll get over it eventually.
